A beach of perfect sunsets

Sunset as part of the Sirata Beach Resort review

For me, the highlight to my stay at Sirata was definitely doing a whole lot of nothing and watching perfect sunset after perfect sunset.  What makes the St. Pete Beach and in fact the whole left coast is that it’s facing the right direction for sunsets versus *cough* Miami.

Included with your stay is the use of the beach cabanas (with the right package).  These cabanas open up and keep you shaded from the sun if you want to read a book or want a little privacy.

Another reason why I love St. Pete Beach is the fact you don’t have walk for a mile until you get to the water.  From the resort you’re literally 1 minute away from maxin’ and relaxin’.

For more ideas on what to do in the area, make sure you check out my video and post on the real St. Pete.

Suite rooms *nudge nudge* get it?

Sirata Standard King Suite Bed

For my stay, I had the opportunity to stay in a Standard King Suite complete with a living area, sofabad and kitchenette.

Sirata Standard King Suite Kitchenette

While the buildings at Sirata may look a little on the older side, I was pleasantly surprised when I stepped into my room.  I could immediately tell it was recently renovated with its tasteful dark wood furniture and inviting decor.  Front to back, my suite was my little home away from home.  I very much appreciated having my own little kitchenette which meant being able to buy groceries at the nearby Publix.

The wow point was definitely the view from the suite.  While I didn’t have a direct view of the gulf, I had this fabulous view.

You honestly can’t go wrong with any room here because they are all incredibly close to the amenities on site, the pool, hot tub, restaurants and of course the beach.

There’s something for everyone

Sirata Beach Resort at Sunset

Whether you’re staying here with family, with your significant other or hanging out with friends, there are plentiful things to do and eat.

If we’re talking food, you have your pick of Compass Grill which I had a chance to eat in which serves up top notch cuisine.  For something more casual you have Harry’s Beach Bar, and Rum Runners Bar & Grill which are steps away from the beach and pool.  One thing I really loved was the fact that there is a fire pit right at Harry’s Beach Bar which is perfect for those colder nights in St. Pete’s.

Wanting to go for a dip?  With the three beachfront pools and two hot tubs, you’ll never find it too packed.

Kids have a lot of things to do here.  Right on the beach is a full playground and an air filled slide that doubles as a water slide as well.   Can you believe there’s also a mini arcade room at Sirata as well?  A variety of water sports activities are available from the beach with Captain DaveWater sports activities are available from the beach with Captain Dave and also a mini arcade room.

With the kids busy, adults get games too with Harry’s bean bag tossing (cornhole) and Bimini ring toss game, pool table, ping pong table and beach volleyball.  The fun doesn’t stop there because Suncoast Watersports with Captain Dave on the beach can also give guests access to parasailing, waverunner rentals, kayaks, sunset cruises, and dolphin watching.

Those staying at the resort for an extended period of time will enjoy the fact that they have coin-operated laundry facilities.  And if you’re wanting to tone those muscles for the beach, there’s a surprisingly well-equipped gym at Sirata as well.

Travel Resources For Your Next Trip

If you’re in the process of planning your trip and putting together your itinerary, these are genuinely the best resources that the Going Awesome Places team stands by 100%.
Credit Cards

Don’t get burned by hidden fees on top of terrible exchange rates. When we travel now, we use the Wise Card. Simply load it with the currency you need before you go and use it as a regular VISA or their digital wallet card. Use their free app to track how much you have and top up when you need to.

Flights

In our opinion, of all the booking search engines, Skyscanner is the most helpful and easy to use thanks to their Everywhere feature. Kayak is also another that’s we will often check.

Car Rental

If you’re looking to save money, these car rental coupon codes will be a true game-changer. Otherwise, DiscoverCars and Booking’s car rental platform are great places to start.

Rideshare

You probably already have accounts but if you don’t, for new Lyft users, use code WILLIAM4825 to get 50% off your first 2 rides (max $10 per ride). Offer valid for 14 days after you take your first ride. For new Uber users, use code cbh4j6plxt8p for the same offer except it’s valid for 30 days.

Airport Parking

You’ll need a spot to leave your car at the airport so why not book a spot at a discount. Use code AWESOME7 to get at least $5 off at Airport Parking Reservations or Park Sleep Fly packages.

eSIM

eSIM: This is our go-to way of staying connected.  Below are the discounts we have acquired for our readers.

  • AmigoSIM – Use GOINGAWESOMEPLACES to save 25% off. Code is re-useable.

Wifi Hotspot

We’ve been a huge fan of wifi hotspot devices such as PokeFi (use code GAP24300) because their rates are are hard to beat and it works globally. Solis is another that we recommend. Pros are that you can share the wifi with your whole group but cons are that you have to invest in a device and you have to charge it every night.

Hotels

Our go-to is Booking.com because they have the best inventory of properties including hotels and B&Bs plus they have their Genius tier discounts. Expedia is also worth using especially with their One Key rewards program which is basically like cash. The exception is Asia where Agoda always has the best prices. Always do a quick check on TripAdvisor as well.

Vacation Rentals

Your first instinct will be to go to Airbnb but we always recommend checking VRBO as well if you’re looking for a vacation rental (now eligible for One Key).

Tours and Activities

When planning our trips, we always check both Viator and GetYourGuide to at least see what’s out there in the destination that we’re going to. They often have different offerings and prices so check both.

Travel Insurance

Learn how to buy the best travel insurance for you. This isn’t something you want to travel without.

  • HeyMondo – Popular insurance provider for frequent travelers and comes with great coverage and special perks. By booking through our link to get a 5% discount!

The Discussion

  1. I just stayed at this resort and I found our room dated. The resort fee is ridiculous especially when you go to the beach and we had to wait an hour for towels. The service there was horrible as I had requested new towels 3 different times and I NEVER got them. The positive the resort is in a great location. On site restaurants are great with live music. I would never stay there again.

    1. Ah that’s too bad! I’m sure a lot has changed since I was last there. Thank you for sharing your experiences!

  2. Stayed here this past weekend I’ll be coming back year after year it was amazing . Everything about this place is awesome I will recommend it to anyone visiting St Pete

  3. Thanks for this. I really like what you’ve posted here and wish you the best of luck with this blog and thanks for sharing.

  4. Tacking on another $45 per day resort fee is insane! I would never book at this resort for that very reason.

    1. The resort fees definitely do suck but one of those unavoidable things for properties all over the world. But yes definitely something to keep in mind!

  5. Love St.Petes. Been there many of times but never at a beach side resort. Most of the time we can find good places to stay that do not cost as much as the beach side resorts.

  6. Thanks for the opportunity to enter such a fabulous give away! We just moved to Tampa and are looking forward to some time at the beach! I have heard great things about St Pete beach!

  7. I was there 2 weeks ago. Loved it and want to go back now. Still 35 degrees here in the northeast!!

  8. I’m probably one of the last two Canadians who has never been to any part of Florida. :)
    I’d really love to go.

  9. Hi, Will. As a resident of nearby Bradenton, Florida, I have to say that St. Pete Beach has a local reputation as one of the best beaches in the area. For one thing, St. Pete keeps the sand pristine and for another, the beach has so many fabulous hotels and dining options that one could eat there for days and never eat at the same place twice.

That said, I’ve seen that beach hotels can sometimes be a bit disappointing. Guests constantly track in sand, which damages floors, and humidity can cause horrendous mold problems, both of which are nightmares to a business’ bottom line. Sirata obviously manages to keep on top of things, which means that it’s a great tourist choice.

Your video proves that Sirata is well-maintained and keeps its decor updated. Good facilities, plenty to keep one amused, lots of relaxation options. What’s not to like?

We’ve been talking about how much we need a break. Sirata looks like a good idea.

    1. Hey Linda, a ton of great insight here from a nearby resident. Staying there just a month ago, I didn’t see any issues with guests tracking in sand or mould so I’m definitely very glad about that. Overall, Sirata does an incredible job maintaining the property and providing excellent service.

Best of luck with the contest!! There’s a good chance of winning :)

      1. Oh gosh, that would be fabulous! You have no idea what a nightmare the past two weeks have been. If we win it will be a gift from God, I’m telling you. :)
