If you’re here, you’re looking for a discount on an upcoming Hertz car rental. Let’s not waste any time here. We’re going to break down all of the best Hertz discount codes from the public promotions to the corporate CDP codes.

Compilation of Hertz Discount Codes

Alright, let’s get down to business. We’ve covered car rental coupon codes for Enterprise, Avis, National, Budget, Dollar, Thrifty, and Europcar and now it’s time for Hertz.

These are a full breakdown of all active Hertz discount codes available right now. It is broken down between the official promotions and the corporate CDP codes.

With these you’ll be well along your way to finding cheap car rentals.

How to use the below tables

To use the codes, simply click on the button on the right side of the table.  This copies the Hertz code to your computer/smartphone so you can paste it in the rental car search form.

Official Hertz discount codes

Sometimes going the safe route is better. For those that are worried about using the corporate codes, these are the current deals offered by Hertz.  They change roughly every quarter or half year.

How to Apply Hertz CDP Codes

Entering the Hertz CDP code is pretty easy.

When you arrive at the home page, enter your destination and this will open up the entire booking options. Click on the ‘Discount Code‘ box and a lightbox will appear.

Here, you’ll be able to enter Corporate Discount Code (I know, confusing that it’s not called CDP on the website). Choose Business or Leisure. Click ‘Apply’ to put the CDP code in.

What Is A Hertz CDP Code?

CDP is an acronym for Counter Discount Program (they also sometimes refer to it as a corporate discount code). These are specially negotiated contracts with companies and organizations with normally better discounts and terms than those available to the public.

Not only do you get a lower rate but you’ll also get bonuses such as additional driver, inclusion of insurance coverage, and unlimited mileage.

A CDP number or code is comprised of numbers only and is 1 to 10 digits long.

What about PC, RQ and CV?

Unique to Hertz is its breakdown of additional codes that can be entered in conjunction with the CDP code.

  • PC (Promotion Code) – Typically issued by Hertz for public use for a specific campaign.
  • RQ (Rate Code) – I rarely see these but I believe used by agents.
  • CV (Convention Number) – Special code issued for a conference.
  • IT (Voucher Number) – Special vouchers issued by Hertz

Ultimately, what’ll give you the biggest discount with Hertz is the use of CDP codes.

Make sure you read the disclaimer on using corporate codes before you go to understand the risk that you’re taking.

If you’d rather not use coupon codes, make sure to try Discover Cars or RentalCars.com.  These are search engines similar to Kayak and Skyscanner but for car rentals. They look at all car rental companies and provide the best rates so you don’t have to look at each one, one at a time.

About The Hertz Car Rental Company

Here are a few tidbits about Hertz that are worth noting.

Prices

Similar to Avis, National and Enterprise to varying degrees, Hertz uses the business model where without the use of promotions, the prices are quite inflated. This is different from the discount chains such as Budget and Fox Rent-A-Car.

Hertz has a special “Manager’s Special” option when booking. This is a way for them to help manage inventory. This is great for those that don’t really care about what type of car they get. When you arrive, they’ll just assign you whatever car makes sense for them.

Lastly, I always recommend that you “Pay Later” vs. “Pay Now”. This gives you maximum flexibility and allows you to cancel at the very last minute.

Locations

One of the distinct advantages of Hertz is that it has massive global reach. You can find a Hertz location practically everywhere you go which is why it’s so popular.

Such widespread coverage around the world is a huge advantage especially when you’re planning big international trips such as the ones I’ve done to create the 7 Day Southern Ireland Itinerary, a DIY safari in Kruger National Park, or an epic trip around New Zealand.

Hertz Gold Plus Rewards

Finally, it’s good to know about Hertz’s loyalty program called Hertz Gold Plus Rewards.

Joining has the following benefits:

  • Skip the line with faster checkout
  • Ultimate choice – This allows you to pick your car and go, similar to how Emerald Aisle works
  • Earn points (At the base level, you earn $1 = 1 Point)
  • Redeem points for free rental days or more (starts at 750 Points for 1 free rental day)
  • Earn premium status the more you rent (Gold -> Five Star -> President’s Circle)
  • Transfer points to other travel programs

While the main benefits are geared towards business travellers, this is still worthwhile to join since it’s free to be a member.

The main added benefit is being able to skip the counter. If you plan on using a corporate CDP code, this’ll be key to talk to less people along the way.

However, if you just signed up and are renting for the first time, you do need to go to the counter to have your information verified. Try doing this at a local branch instead of an airport location because they won’t question your use of CDPs.

Who else does Hertz own?

For your information, Hertz also owns Dollar and Thrifty. Make sure to check out the Dollar car rental promo codes.

Other Tips On Saving Money With Hertz

Here are a couple of basic tips on car rental savings with Hertz.

  • Sign up for Hertz Gold Plus Rewards – The main benefit is being able to Skip the Counter.
  • Don’t rent from the airport – Those airport fees add up.  They sneakily call it something ambiguous which is why you’ll see Airport Concession Recovery, Customer Facility Charge. Hertz sometimes says it’s included but they’ve already included it in the rate at this point.
  • Be careful of the extra hour – Let’s say you make a booking where pick up is 3PM and drop off is 3PM the next day. You’ll notice that it’ll charge you 1 day plus 1 extra hour. This completely bogus. Simply change your booking to drop off at 2PM to fix this.
  • Week rentals sometimes cheaper than 5 or 6 days – Discounts often kick in when you hit a full week so if you’re close to that, try getting a quote for 7 days.
  • Use credit card for car rental insurance – Instead of purchasing LDW, leverage your credit card for insurance.  Make sure you read your policy beforehand to know what and how you’re covered.
  • Refuelling service is never a good idea – Unless you think you’re going to be in a crazy time crunch, always fill up the tank before you return the car.  Even if they offer you a temping fuel plan, it’ll always be more expensive than you filling it up by yourself.
  • AAA benefit – It’s worth noting that if you book with the AAA CDP 240, there is no young drivers fee.

Are There Any Codes For Underage Drivers (Under 25)

Similar to Avis, Hertz is terrible with codes that help underage drivers (under 25). In fact, there are literally no codes that help.

If you’re under 25, you might be better off looking at the Enterprise promo codes where they have many more options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Hertz check for ID?

Hertz doesn’t normally check for ID so you should be safe here. Many have used the IBM code without issue. Improve your chances by signing up for Gold Plus Rewards and use the skip the counter feature.

Can you do one-way rentals with Hertz?

One-way rentals are allowed with Hertz. Prices increase when booking one-way and they come in the form of either 1) a rate increase, 2) the elimination of any included miles, or 3) through a fixed one-way fee

What is the best Hertz CDP code?

Overall, the tried and true best CDP code is 1859849 when doing price comparison within Hertz.

Does Hertz offer any AAA or CAA discounts?

Yes, Hertz does have affiliations with AAA and CAA. The way Hertz does it is that they have unique CDP codes per region. However, you can use my go-to numbers which are CDP 240 for AAA and CDP 282 with CAA.

Is there an AARP code for Hertz?

Yes, there’s a CDP code 2007815 for up to 20% off for AARP members but it is likely that you will be asked for your ID.

Does it matter if I book for business or leisure?

No, this will not changes the rates you get.

Does Hertz CDP code 40000 work?

As of late 2020, Hertz removed the discount provided by the 40000 code. This means that it no longer works. You can use the code but it will just say “Non Affiliated Discount” and not provide any true savings.

Does Hertz have discounts for Costco members?

No, Hertz does not offer discounts for Costco members.

Travel Resources For Your Next Trip

If you’re in the process of planning your trip and putting together your itinerary, these are genuinely the best resources that the Going Awesome Places team stands by 100%.
Credit Cards

Don’t get burned by hidden fees on top of terrible exchange rates. When we travel now, we use the Wise Card. Simply load it with the currency you need before you go and use it as a regular VISA or their digital wallet card. Use their free app to track how much you have and top up when you need to.

Flights

In our opinion, of all the booking search engines, Skyscanner is the most helpful and easy to use thanks to their Everywhere feature. Kayak is also another that’s we will often check.

Car Rental

If you’re looking to save money, these car rental coupon codes will be a true game-changer. Otherwise, DiscoverCars and Booking’s car rental platform are great places to start.

Rideshare

You probably already have accounts but if you don’t, for new Lyft users, use code WILLIAM4825 to get 50% off your first 2 rides (max $10 per ride). Offer valid for 14 days after you take your first ride. For new Uber users, use code cbh4j6plxt8p for the same offer except it’s valid for 30 days.

Airport Parking

You’ll need a spot to leave your car at the airport so why not book a spot at a discount. Use code AWESOME7 to get at least $5 off at Airport Parking Reservations or Park Sleep Fly packages.

eSIM

eSIM: This is our go-to way of staying connected.  Below are the discounts we have acquired for our readers.

  • AmigoSIM – Use GOINGAWESOMEPLACES to save 25% off. Code is re-useable.
  • Gigsky – Use TANG149 to get $3 USD when you sign up, then use code GOINGAWESOME to save 20% on all eSIM orders.
  • Airalo – Use referral code WILLIA9500 to get $3 USD credit on your first purchase.
  • KnowRoaming – Use code GAP10 to save 10%.
  • AloSIM – Use code GOINGAWESOMEPLACES to save 15%.
  • UbigiAWESOME10 to save 10% on your first order.
  • Holafly – Use code GOINGAWESOMEPLACES to save 5%.
  • Roamless – Use code AWESOME20 to save 20.
  • Saily – Use code GAP15 to save 15%.

Make sure to read our article on breaking down the cheapest eSIMs for travel to learn more.

Wifi Hotspot

We’ve been a huge fan of wifi hotspot devices such as PokeFi (use code GAP24300) because their rates are are hard to beat and it works globally. Solis is another that we recommend. Pros are that you can share the wifi with your whole group but cons are that you have to invest in a device and you have to charge it every night.

Hotels

Our go-to is Booking.com because they have the best inventory of properties including hotels and B&Bs plus they have their Genius tier discounts. Expedia is also worth using especially with their One Key rewards program which is basically like cash. The exception is Asia where Agoda always has the best prices. Always do a quick check on TripAdvisor as well.

Vacation Rentals

Your first instinct will be to go to Airbnb but we always recommend checking VRBO as well if you’re looking for a vacation rental (now eligible for One Key).

Tours and Activities

When planning our trips, we always check both Viator and GetYourGuide to at least see what’s out there in the destination that we’re going to. They often have different offerings and prices so check both.

Travel Insurance

Learn how to buy the best travel insurance for you. This isn’t something you want to travel without.

  • HeyMondo – Popular insurance provider for frequent travelers and comes with great coverage and special perks. By booking through our link to get a 5% discount!
  • RATESDOTCA – Search engine Canadians looking for the cheapest insurance including multi-trip annual policies.
  • SafetyWing – A perfect fit for long-term nomads.

The Discussion

  1. The corporate CDP codes for Hertz (IBM new, AT&T) have been invalidated years ago. They do not work.

  2. hi there! i need help booking a one way. Valencia Airport to Lisbon AIrport. dec 24-jan2, 2024. The one way fee seems to be about 700 Euro. I can’t seem to get around that…any advice? help?
I could try to offset that crazy fee with a cheap rental with codes but I am not finding anything cheaper than around 1300 Euro.

    1. Have you tried other car rental companies? Hertz might not be your best option in this case.

  3. I can say that the AT&T Corporate CDP code is still currently the best option (CDP – 1851913). It no longer comes with the Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) included, but it will give you the best price and any vehicle.

    For a large sized vehicle (Class F); AT&T = ~$30.75/day compared to IBM = ~$47.51/day.

Also when booking online, the AT&T code does not make you used an employee email for the discount verification while the IBM code does. Safe Travels.!

  4. hi there,
There was a geat PC code 192021 that is not working anymore.
Do you have another one that gives the same 1 day free for 7 days rental wih Hertz ?

    Thanks a lot !

  5. Thank you for your inform detail about rental car CDP and program.

It is very interesting and useful.

I plan to trip in America and I will make Hertz rental car.

So, I try to input CDP 795092 ( it is master card SMB that you are introduce in this page .)

It makes best result for me.

So, I try to search this CDP in Google.

I can find this page :
    https://www.hertz.ie/rentacar/partner/index.jsp?targetPage=IT_Master_Card.jsp&selectedPartnerCode=

It looks for “Italy Master card holders”.

I am Korean and have Master card also.

But When I pick a rental car in Hertz counter, does counter staff check I am Italian (with Passport)?

And Should I have Master card issued from Italy?

    Thank you.

    1. It might have to be a risk you’re willing to take but we’d recommend having a back up booking elsewhere in case.

  6. My CDP’s loaded on my. Hertz profile all have been red flagged as Not valid?
I had Bearing Point loaded, but now gone?
Maybe new 2023 codes are out?
    Any help?
    Thanks
    Guy

    1. Hi Guy, it’s possible that they’ve been more proactive in removing codes or changing them. They normally don’t have new ones per year so it’s just a matter of finding ones that work.

    1. We’re not sure! For most other programs, they exist but we haven’t seen one for Hertz unfortunately. If you find out, let us know!

  7. Thanks for your spot on tips! We reserved a minivan 2 months ago using the AT&T CDP for our family vacation starting this weekend. We just received a call from the Hertz pickup site confirming our reservation and to tell us that Hertz is cracking down on the use of discount codes so we need to bring proof of our employment with AT&T. We are Gold members so I’m guessing the skip the line benefit won’t really help us. Suggestions? Thanks for any advice!

  8. What is the “car and driver” discount?—for people who have subscriptions to the magazine?
Do you recommend having two reservations and cancelling one after picking up the car with the better discount?
Is there a risk to using the AT&T discount—is it only for employees? The rate is really low on the week I’m trying to book.

    1. Hi Laurie, yes that’s for the Car & Driver magazine so there typically is no official way to validate the membership. Also, you’re exactly right, having different reservations is always a good way to make sure you have a back up but typically we’d recommend doing it across different companies.

    1. Another user reported this earlier this month. It looks like it might’ve changed or been disabled.

    1. Hey David! Was this an e-mail to you after you had made a booking? What did it say?

    1. Thanks for the heads up! It looks like those have been pulled off.

    1. Cancellation should be the same as all rentals with Hertz so you’ll be able to cancel right up to the end since no credit card is required for booking.

  9. I have gold service confirmed. What are chances that I will be asked for more ID? I have a minivan reserved.Looking here, I shoudl come alone?

    1. We always recommend having a back up reservation. With your membership, you should be able to bypass the line which will help immensely.

  10. I just successfully book a car with an IBM CDP 1859849 in UAE. The Hertz website didn’t ask me to input any IBM domain email address for verification.

    1. Thanks for the heads up! Yes a few other readers had mentioned that. It looks like they’ve added that field in permanently for IBM anyways. Feel free to try a few of the other codes!

  11. I just tried to rent using IBM code and I was asked to show proof. They just said I can’t use it if I can’t prove I work there. Vancouver airport Hertz FYI.

    1. Thank you for the heads up. This looks like to be the case for the IBM code moving forward no matter which location you’re renting from.

  12. I used the 40000 code for years but it has gone away however I mistakenly entered 50000 today and provided a 12% OVER the standard IBM 1859849 code. It states it is for Union Pacific corp.

    1. Thanks William! Do you mean to say that 50000 gave you an even better discount or was it worse?

    2. Bad news: Using the new IBM code now prompts you to enter and IBM email address

Good News: This Union Pacific CDP worked for me and it’s cheaper than IBM! Fingers crossed 🤞🏼

        1. I just used the 50000 code as well and it was a better rate than IBMs. Do either of you have problems with your rentals?

  13. I worked for IBM starting back in 1996 and I traveled on official company business often. They set me up with my Hertz Gold account, so I had no hand in creating it, or associating the IBM discount code. When I left the company in 2000 I realized they never removed the IBM code from my Hertz Gold account, and I have continued to rent from them with the IBM discount applied. In all those years I never had to produce a business card, or any other form of documentation showing that I worked there.

      1. I have a few tips that people may want to review.

        (1) IBM employees always have a Hertz Gold account – its free to setup, but you have to use a corporate or perhaps a school email address.

        (2) Don’t be worried if it isn’t an IBM domain email address – if anyone were to ask you — you are traveling for IBM as a consultant.

        (3) Don’t look like a tourist.

        (4) Show up to pick up the car alone. Pick up your passengers after you pick up the car and exit the Hertz parking garage. (Same is true when you return – drop your passengers off first)

        (5) Don’t return the car looking like a total mess — if you have 3 kids, make sure to make time to clean it out so it doesns’t look like you just carted around 3 kids.

        (6) Waive the additional insurance coverage – I am 99% certain that this is what we used to do.

        (7) Drive carefully – Don’t drink and drive – Always consider using an Uber if you are going out on the town

        (8) If you need another adult to drive the car — you can add a 2nd driver. They can come to the counter, or you can call ahead and ask if you can add them. Usually they want to see your driver license, so they will likely make you bring your 2nd person to the counter.

        (9) Use a credit card if you have one – all IBM employees used to travel with corporate American Express (*BUT*) don’t get all worried about that. You can use any card you want, as long as your name is on it – if anyone were to ask you why you aren’t using your corporate card, you just tell them that you collect points or miles or dividends with the card you are using. (Frequent business travelers will do this a lot, so don’t fret)

        (10) If you are picking up a car, like a Mini Van, that is also ok. If anyone were to ever ask you – why little old you need so much room – you just say, I am meeting up with colleagues and clients at the hotel and we are going to carpool as much as possible.

        (11) If you are picking the car up on the weekend – and if the agent asks – you say something like, yeah I have to setup for a meeting and we have a reception that starts Sunday evening. I thought I would come in a day or two early and enjoy the hotel amenities.

        (12) If you are picking up a car near home — You can say that you have business in “someplace that is like 5-6-7 hours away” and you prefer to just drive versus flying. Or even if its further away – I work with a few people who hate to fly and literally drive 1/2 across country to avoid flying.

        (13) Lastly, just be friendly and just chit chat with the agent in a normal manner. Don’t offer more information than necessary. If they don’t ask you why you are renting a 7 person van, then you just let it be.

        Be safe!! Enjoy the Road.

  14. hello I’m planning a trip for the weekend and need a car and I’m afraid to use the IBM code after reading all the info I’m a AAA Member and a hertz gold plus still super expensive in AZ please help thank you.

    1. Hi Shelly, from what I’ve heard the rates have really gone up with the shortages we’re seeing everywhere. I’m guessing you tried CDP: 240. Beyond that, I’d probably look at other car rental companies and do a comparison. Another way to do a quick search is to use something like Discover Cars or RentalCars.com to get a quick look at all companies at once.

  15. 1851913. I work for AT&T and that’s our code. even better rates and they cover damage waiver

  16. Hi, former Hertz employee here. Hertz is partnered with AAA and each state has their own AAA code. AAA members get a discounted rate, free additional drivers, free XM radio, free car seats, and the underage fee is waived for renters between 20 and 25.
Hertz does have a CDP for AARP (can’t remember it, should be 15% off rate) but all you have to do is tell the rental agent to add the code. Note: they will most likely ask for proof you are an AARP member if you ask them to add the code.
Signing up for Gold Rewards is great but you have to go to the counter the first time after you sign up to have your information verified. Do this at a local branch instead of the airport because they won’t question your CDPs.
If you have a CDP booking for business will sometimes include different coverage verses booking for leisure.

    1. Thanks for dropping super useful information here. I fixed up the article with that info!

    2. Thanks for the helpful info! What would you tell the local branch when requesting to verify your info for the Gold Rewards account?

    3. Oh I found the opposite to be true! I had been using the 4000 code through airports for a number of trips – no problem. Then I needed to pick up from a local branch without gold options and – well, let’s just say I had to get very creative and am glad I had a week to get creative in before returning the car. Local branch is the only not time I’ve ever been asked for corporate ID

  17. It looks like 40000 might be dead? Says “non affiliated discount” as the text when you enter, and it didn’t give a discount.

    1. Oh no! That’s too bad. You’re right, you can enter it in but I’m not quite sure if it’s giving as deep as a discount as before or any at all. If I find out anything new I’ll definitely update the post.
