How To Save Money on Car Rentals

There are a lot of car rental corporate codes out on the market. These can be broken down into official codes that are offered to the public and others that are created generated for use by companies.
Official Car Rental Discount Codes
All car rental companies issue their own discount codes or general promotions that are accessible to the public. They’re not a secret but sometimes they can be a bit hidden on their website or only shared through their newsletters.
The below is a list of all the official coupon codes and promos that everyone is free to use with no risk of improper usage.
Corporate Car Rental Coupon Codes
Corporate codes are for the employees that work at companies that have special relationship with car rental companies. They are meant to be used by employees and contractors that work for the companies.
In some cases, car rental corporate codes can yield significant discounts and in other cases, marginal savings. As an employee of a company that has these special codes, it’s always worth checking these rates.
That said, these aren’t the be-all-end-all of discounts so make sure to also head down to learn other strategies you should consider.
To learn how to apply the discounts, head over to the coupon code listings by company.
NOTE: We’ve removed Enterprise, National, Alamo, Budget, and Avis at their request.
What Are Acceptable Forms Of ID?
The customer service staff at the counter may ask you for your ID when processing your car rental at pick-up. Here are a few forms of ID that are commonly accepted.
- Badge or pass with the company name and picture.
- Business card that includes your name and company.
- Email (printed or on the phone) showing your e-mail address with the company name.
Disclaimer on using rental car corporate codes
Full disclosure, there’s inherent risk in using car rental coupon codes that belong to companies you don’t work for.
Corporate discount codes are generated for employees to use and if you use it as a non-employee, you expose yourself to some risk. Here’s what could happen:
- They ask for your ID and you don’t have one – They could cancel your reservation which leaves you to make a new reservation on the spot which will be many times more expensive.
- They discover fraudulent use of a code during your rental – Since you haven’t returned the car and they haven’t billed you yet, they could revoke the code which means paying regular price.
- You get into an accident and your code includes insurance coverage – Whether it’s LDW, CDW or something else, if they find out during the claim process that you’re not an employee, they could null all insurance coverage.
- You get into an accident and you leverage your own insurance – Your own insurance company could null coverage if they find out your use of a corporate code.
Simply put, you should know what you’re getting into when using one of these corporate coupon codes. Whether it’s ethics or risk, you need to make a calculated decision and be okay with the outcome.
If you’re not comfortable using corporate codes, look for promotion codes that aren’t tied to a company and you won’t expose yourself to any risk.

Alternatives way to find deals with car rentals
Traditionally, most people will go directly to their car rental company of choice. It could be because of loyalty, familiarity, or convenience. That said, there are a lot of hidden offers and smaller car rental agencies that you might not know about.
When you book flights, many use Skyscanner and Kayak to search for the best prices. In a similar way, there are also aggregate websites for rental cars.
Here are a list of companies that you’ll want to bookmark:
- Discover Cars – Offers great car rental coverage around the world and is our go-to.
- Booking.com – Reliable car rental platform by Booking.com with great rates and search engine.
- Klook – This is a popular platform in Asia that’s best known for activities but they have great rates for car rentals and will often have their own discounts.
Similar to flights, these are an invaluable tool for price comparison and unearthing lower rates that you might not see when you go straight to your car rental company of choice.
WHAT WE RECOMMEND: Make it a habit to start your car rental search with the car rental aggregators. It’s quick and easy to do. Note down which one is the cheapest and then compare that the prices you can get when booking directly and when using special codes.

Don’t forget parking at the airport

Something that’s easy to forget in trip planning is how you’re going to get to the airport and if you’re driving your own car, where you’re going to leave it behind.
That’s where booking platforms like Airport Parking Reservations and Park Sleep Fly come into play. Whether you need to get a hotel package that includes parking or just parking itself, they have you covered.
Use the code AWESOME7 to save up to $7 off of your booking.
Six Other Strategies To Consider
Car rental coupon codes aren’t the be-all and end-all. There are other factors you need to consider when renting a car for your upcoming vacation. Here are a few things you should consider.
1 – Alternative to car rental coupon codes
If you’d rather not use coupon codes, make sure to give Discover Cars and RentalCars.com a shot.
These are essentially online travel agencies/search engines that will look at the location that you’re interested and find the cheapest rates. The magic is that you might be able to find a rate with a company that you didn’t expect and this typically doesn’t even require a coupon code.
2 – Rent outside the airport
Simply put, airports are always going to be more expensive to rent than going into the city.
Why? Airport sneakily add supplemental taxes and fees on top. These are additional line items in the rate. They come in different names but they are essentially special surcharges.
These extra charges cover the cost of the premium location at the airport, special shuttles they might run for customers. It is ultimately a convenience fee.
PRO TIP: When you work out the differences, it might even be worth it to take a cab to an off-airport location to save on these fees.
3 – Watch out for sneaky fees and add-ons
Some, not all car rental companies like to add insurance coverage and other add-ons automatically when you make bookings online.
When you confirm your booking and when you sign the papers at the counter, make sure you read all the inclusions and pay attention to anything they might’ve snuck in.
Most common default additions are prepaid gas and insurance coverage.
4 – Don’t pay for insurance you don’t need
Where rental companies make money is in the additional insurance such as loss damage waivers (LDW), collision damage waivers (CDW), or personal effects coverage.
Thing is, if you’re already covered under your own car insurance, you have something like CAA/AAA membership, or you have a travel credit card, you really don’t need to pay for extra insurance.
5 – Don’t pre-pay for gas
This can be a convenient feature to have for business travelers that don’t have time and just want to drop off a car without filling up but the reality is that the fuel rates they charge are inflated from the market rate.
Don’t get ripped off and fuel up your rental vehicle before you go. Make sure you decline the pre-pay gas option.
PRO TIP #1: When you first pick up your car, always take a picture of your car’s dashboard. Most car rental companies will give you car with a full tank but sometimes it’s not. A photo will give you a reference for later how much you need to fill.
PRO TIP #2: Depending on the car, the fuel gauge needle stays full for a good 20 kilometers or 12 miles. Knowing this, fill up your tank earlier so you’re paying less gas. Alternatively, you don’t need to pump your car full right before returning it, although this is much harder to do.
6 – Check the smaller companies
If there’s anything I’ve learned from recent trips to Japan, Iceland, Greece, New Zealand, and Easter Island, you can’t always rely on the big rental companies. In some cases, it’s because they don’t have a presence, in other cases, the local companies have better rates.
Every country is a little different though so some sleuthing is required to figure out who the local players are because the aggregators like DiscoverCars and RentalCars.com don’t show up.
In some cases, they may not have a strong online presence, and in other cases, you might be able to book online but it makes more sense to go in-person so you can negotiate.
Here are a few examples of real-life scenarios:
- Greece – In Santorini, instead of renting from the airport where the big brands were, we wanted a car rental company close to us in Imerovigli. We found a local company, walked in, and negotiated a cheap rate to rent a car for the day. We would not have gotten what we paid if we had reserved a car online.
- Iceland – We did a lot of price comparison online ahead of time and what worked out the best was Blue Car Rental which easily beat out the bigger companies.
- Easter Island – There simply aren’t any large car rental companies on the island. In addition, most agencies had terrible websites and poor communication in English. As a result, we risked it and hopped into a few offices on the main street and effectively pitted each other to give us the lowest price.
- New Zealand – From Queenstown, there were many of the big players at the airport but we dug around and found out there were so many other brands we’ve never heard of. We ended up picking Hitch (now Snap) because they had the best rates.
- Japan – Similar to New Zealand, local car rental companies dominate the market. What was different in this was was that the Japanese websites were difficult to navigate in English. As a result, it was often much easier to book from the platform Klook.
Step-by-step instructions for how to get the best deals on car rentals
This is a fool-proof way to make sure you get the best deal on car rentals. It’s really a matter of doing your due diligence and laying out all of the options on the table.
When doing your searches, make sure you use the exact same parameters and class of car (if possible).
- Bookmark this page – So you don’t forget, make sure to bookmark this page or use our handy tool to have the link e-mailed to you.
- Baseline search – Start your search with DiscoverCars and RentalCars.com to get a baseline of what the lowest total prices are. Mark down the total price inclusive of fees and taxes and note down which car rental company it is.
- Check corporate codes – If you are eligible to use corporate codes, check the rate.
- Check public codes and discounts – Car rental companies often run big promos throughout the year which we share in our seasonal offers section. Companies also have year-long codes that always work and aren’t corporate codes. For instance, Avis A519319 and Budget D822119 offer huge discounts. Also, if you’re a member of AAA, CAA, AARP, etc., you may also be eligible for excellent rates.
- Research local car rental companies – The easiest way to see what companies are available is to go to the airport website and look for a car rental section. A plain old Google search for “[insert destination] car rental” will also work. Get the rates for each one.
- Don’t forget about Europcar and ACE – Europcar is one of the anomalies of the industry where they just consistently have good rates and their seasonal promos make it even better. If you’re from Australia and New Zealand, employees of Linfox get exclusive discounts. HAPPYBD10 can also get you $10 USD off!. ACE Rent A Car is another because of our custom AWESOME24 code that’s always worth testing.
- Pick the best rate and book – At this point, you’ll have a lot of data points. Pick either the best rate or the one that has the best balance of price and features (i.e. car class, mileage, bonuses).
9 Useful Car Rental Tips You Should Know
1 – Read the fine print for tax, fees, and information
Where car rental companies get you is in the fine print often times. We can’t even count the number of times when I’ve seen a killer deal on a rental only to find that there are a ton of added fees on top or you realize it isn’t unlimited miles.
We typically don’t worry as much for the big rental companies but if you’re booking from a smaller unknown/local rental company, make sure you read the details.
2 – Make back up plans
One of the best tips someone every gave me about car rentals and the use of promo codes is to always have multiple reservations in hand. If one fails because they ask for your ID or they flat out reject your reservation because the manager thinks it’s too cheap, you always have another one ready to go with another car rental company.
This hedges your bets so-to-speak and it’s a great best-practice for all of you travel hackers out there.
3 – Don’t cancel your credit card
This turned out to be an issue for us in South Africa with Europcar. I totally wasn’t thinking about this at the time but as part of the credit card churning that I do, I ended up cancelling a card that I made a reservation with.
During check-in they asked for my ID including the card. By the time my trip to South Africa happened, I didn’t have the card anymore. Luckily, the manager on duty made an exception for me to allow me to keep my reservation but if things played out differently, I would have had to create a new reservation which undoubtedly would have been much more expensive.
LESSON: Make sure you keep the credit card that you make the reservation under and have it with you when you travel.
4 – Research all the rental companies
The big players don’t necessarily always win. This is particularly true when you’re looking for a car rental outside of North America. Sure, companies like Avis, Enterprise, and Hertz have locations internationally but there are many more local-based companies that you most likely haven’t heard of.
Many times, there are local car rental companies that can be much cheaper than the big brands.
Here are a few examples from other countries that I’ve rented cars from:
- New Zealand – We rented from Jucy our first time to New Zealand and Hitch (now Snap) on our 3 week New Zealand itinerary. Other companies we considered were Gorental, Lucky, Apex, USave, Ace, and Omega.
- Iceland – All the big companies were very expensive, so we ended up booking with Blue Car Rental on our 8 day Iceland Itinerary which was completely unknown to us but had excellent rates. At the time, didn’t have car rental coupon codes but it didn’t matter. The good news is that I’ve managed to source a bunch of car rental coupon codes to use when you rent a car in Iceland.
- UK – The regular players are there but don’t forget to check out Dollar in the UK as they have good rates as well.
- Japan – Japan’s an example of country where you’ll find the big car rental companies lurking around but they’re actually dominated by local agencies such as Times Car Rental, Toyota Rent-A-Car, Nippon Rent-A-Car, and Nissan Rent-A-Car. Since most websites are a bit of a mess for English-users, we found it much easier to book directly from Klook.
Lastly, it may also make a difference to look at the local country’s car rental websites.
For instance, Enterprise.com is usually where I naturally go to search but if you’re renting in Canada you should look at Enterprise.ca and if you’re travelling to the UK, you should use Enterprise.co.uk. Prices can be different on the regional sites even though you’re looking for the same cars.
5 – Don’t discount loyalty
You have to put value in loyalty programs and what will make your life easier. I’ve been with National for a long time and I belong to their Emerald Club program. While their prices may not always be the lowest, I find myself booking with them often because they’re the only car rental company where I can go out to the aisle and pick the car I want. This is a huge time saver on top of knowing that there’s less chances of me being ID’d.
The worst is when you go out onto the lot and realize they gave you a crappy car and you have to go back inside to ask for something different. This is a waste of valuable time when you’d rather be hitting the road right away to explore the new destination you’re in.
6 – Don’t pre-pay
Recently, a reader, April, let us know that there have been instances where customers that have prepaid have also been charged another rate after returning the car. In effect, customers have been double-dipped on by car rental companies.
If you do end up pre-paying for a rental to save money, double check your credit card statement to make sure nothing looks out of place or you’ve been charged twice.
Even if you haven’t prepaid, still check!
7 – Take photos of your car before you leave the lot
This is an easy one to forget because you just want to grab and go but it’s good practice to take photos of the exterior so that you have proof if they say you damaged the car but it was there to begin with.
Next level would be to take videos of the car. This might be easier to do as you can record your own walk around of the car and make live commentary of things that you notice.
In addition, there’s usually a slip of paper that comes with your car when you pick it up that indicates damage. If there’s anything noticeable, I always grab the parking garage attendant and make sure they mark it up.
8 – Check to make sure everything works
This happened to us on our 8 day Iceland Itinerary where we initially drove off with our SUV only to realize that the cigarette adapter wasn’t working. We don’t smoke but we use that to charge our devices and for road trips.
Lesson – check all of the electronics, air condition, windows, and all of the other basic car functions while you’re in the lot.
If something doesn’t work, you can easily switch cars.
9 – Don’t sweat the small stuff
This is something that I’ve encountered more times than I wish to admit.
During our 1 week Cape Town itinerary, I managed to curb the rims of our car on a turn. I swear this happens every time I drive on the opposite side of the road.
Since the damage was pretty minor, I didn’t say anything when we returned the car. To our surprise, even after their inspection, they didn’t say anything and we weren’t charged for the damage.
LESSON: Car rental agents aren’t as detailed in their pre or post assessment of the vehicle. Don’t stress about small nicks or curbed rims.
Usually, when you drop off a car, you park it in a lot, they check the odometer, and print you a receipt. Car rental agents are incredibly busy and need to move the line as quickly as possible and things like small curb damage aren’t easy to spot.
Upon talking to many agents over the years, what they’re mainly concerned about are windshield cracks and primary body damage. Small scuffs and curb scratches aren’t what they care about so you can get away with that if it happens to you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Almost every single rental agency has some form of coupon codes whether they’re official or for corporate use.
This is a grey area. Corporate car rental codes are created for employees of the associated companies and while you’re not supposed to used them, most staff don’t check for ID which means that you can use them without much risk. That said, be aware that car rental companies are checking ID more frequently this year because of the car rental shortage.
There’s no definitive answer here as it really depends on the location in the world, dates, and class of car. Overall, Avis offers significant discounts if you use the right coupon codes.
In most years, they don’t but with the shortage of car rentals this year, they’ve been more diligent to check ID. In some cases, they’ve also flagged this for loyalty program members to check ID so be prepared.
Yes, companies like Europcar, Alamo and Fox Rent A Car offer great listed rates that aren’t inflated.
Yes, there is currently a rental car shortage in the United States with companies reducing their fleet by as much as 50% during the pandemic. It’s advised to book as soon as possible. Also, it’s a good idea to call the rental car branch directly to re-confirm your booking ahead of time.
If you’d rather not use coupon codes, make sure to try Discover Cars or RentalCars.com. They look at all car rental companies and provide the best rates so you don’t have to look at each one, one at a time.
Yes, you can use these coupon codes outside of North America as long as the company has rental locations in the country you’re interested in.
You can find codes for Sixt on this deals page which includes saving up to 15% worldwide.

Don’t get burned by hidden fees on top of terrible exchange rates. When we travel now, we use the Wise Card. Simply load it with the currency you need before you go and use it as a regular VISA or their digital wallet card. Use their free app to track how much you have and top up when you need to.
In our opinion, of all the booking search engines, Skyscanner is the most helpful and easy to use thanks to their Everywhere feature. Kayak is also another that’s we will often check.
If you’re looking to save money, these car rental coupon codes will be a true game-changer. Otherwise, DiscoverCars and Booking’s car rental platform are great places to start.
You probably already have accounts but if you don’t, for new Lyft users, use code WILLIAM4825 to get 50% off your first 2 rides (max $10 per ride). Offer valid for 14 days after you take your first ride. For new Uber users, use code cbh4j6plxt8p for the same offer except it’s valid for 30 days.

We’ve been a huge fan of wifi hotspot devices such as PokeFi (use code GAP24300) because their rates are are hard to beat and it works globally. Solis is another that we recommend. Pros are that you can share the wifi with your whole group but cons are that you have to invest in a device and you have to charge it every night.
Our go-to is Booking.com because they have the best inventory of properties including hotels and B&Bs plus they have their Genius tier discounts. Expedia is also worth using especially with their One Key rewards program which is basically like cash. The exception is Asia where Agoda always has the best prices. Always do a quick check on TripAdvisor as well.
When planning our trips, we always check both Viator and GetYourGuide to at least see what’s out there in the destination that we’re going to. They often have different offerings and prices so check both.

Clear and easy to follow! This deserves more attention online.
This will help me a lot going forward. The examples made it more relatable. This gave me a new perspective.
Hi William.
Up to 20% can be saved off campervan and motorhome rentals on https://www.campervanhireandrental.com.au/. Both return and one-way deals.
Cheers.
Great tip! Is there a code or is 20% the base discount you get for using them? Also, is this for Australia only?
You should add that AAA members have the no young driver fee at hertz
Great, I’ve added it to our Hertz article.
3 years ago I had to rent from Philly to Florida 1 way. Was going to cost me like $900(because it was around Christmas) I surfed the web, found Nationals Big 10 code and signed up for Emerald Aisle (never had to speak to an agent. Just got in the car and drove off). Literally saved me 80% off the rental. Wound up costing me only $80 in total. Not sure if they still have this available, but I figured I would share that I used it successfully.
Thanks for the coupon codes William. Just saved a bunch on my car rental on Vancouver Island!
I’m so glad that this helped you save money!!
Not Really comment more a question.is it better to book thru car company or other site like priceline.com? I have option of standard size car for 1 week under $300 with 3 car rental companies thru priceline or under $200 with Avis. Which is better way to book?
Hi Christine, in general I’d say booking directly through car rental companies because you’ll have direct contact with them but it never hurts to shop around as sometimes you can find oddly good deals on platforms like Priceline. In your specific example, $200 with Avis seems to be the cheapest so I’d probably go with them!
Hi, I heard that Hertz and National updated there terms&conditions and it says this:
Corporate Account Verification
This reservation is being made with a Contract ID number (CID) assigned to a Corporate Account for use exclusively by its eligible renters. Use of this CID by individuals other than eligible renters is prohibited and may result in disciplinary action. Renters using this CID may be required to show proof of employment or authorization (such as a business card, current email with company domain, work order, etc.). Questions about acceptable proof of employment or authorization should be directed to your Travel Manager.
I want to use 211762(Amex Platinum)on Hertz or 8573150 on National.
Do you know if these codes are free for anybody to use?
They’ve definitely clamped down on this although it may not be consistent across all locations that they’ll check. There’s some inherent risk in using these codes if you don’t have the ID or Amex Plat in this case to back it up. I’d recommend having a back up booking in case!
I NEVER write comments b/c I don’t want to give my email address, but am making an exception today! I was booking a car out of Las Vegas airport and every site I looked at I couldn’t find a car for less than $83/day. I used the Thrifty CDP code 3023636 and reserved a midsize car for $39/day! Thank you so much for this.
You’re very welcome Wendi! I’m glad you were able to find a great deal :)
I almost forgot! The very friendly and talkative agent gave me a whole bunch of tips, most of which I already knew from this site or experience. One I didn’t know was that a large occurrence of double dipping happens with pre paid reservations. The agent advised not pre-paying whenever possible and on the occasion that you do, to do the following:
1. On return, state clearly that that car was prepaid and ask that it be clearly marked on the return slip (especially with quick returns).
2. Check your billing statements.
He told me several stories about patrons who had difficult times getting the funds reversed.
Use that information as you like. I don’t pre-pay often, so it doesn’t really affect me.
Thank you so much for the time and effort you put into these lists!
I can tell you and your readers that car rental companies are asking for proof of discount use for corporate codes more frequently than they used to because of the current rental car shortage (which is also driving up rates). I watched it happen to a guy in front of me in line at budget who was denied access to typical Fastbreak service to validate the code. I was talking to the agent, and the agent was happy to share a number of stories swapped between agencies on the major increase of “discount abuse” as they called it.
Here is something I didn’t know that I’d like to share.
My own reservation had a glitch. So what I had on paper did not match what was on the computer. How, I have no clue! But the only way to resolve it was the start over. This drove rates WAY up. After I got over that shock, the agent informed me they have access to special “walk in” packages. This dropped my rate back down to below the original amount, waived the one -way fee and included insurance.
I was just friendly and nice and understanding of the fact that that the glitch was not the agents fault. So the agent did everything he could to help. He really, really helped and even extended my return time by a few hours that I ended up needing.
Hey April, thank you so much for chiming in. I’ve been hearing the same about companies checking ID more often than not this year.
Glad to hear that things worked out with the glitch. I know everyone has different experiences when it comes to agents especially when the lines are so long nowadays.
Also, great tip about the pre-paying. Does the agent mean that the company will charge pre-pay and then charge again on top by accident? That’s so crazy that this happens. I rarely ever pre-pay because of the flexibility but that is definitely shady on the car rental companies!
Hi Will,
Thank you so much for the amazing info on car rentals. Just used a code for Hertz and saved $100 canceling our Alamo reservations we had. You are the best!
Shawn
Awesome, I’m so glad you were able to save that money :)
Just used AWD code W222853 on Avis.com from GENE’S COMPUTER REPAIR SERVICE. My price went down from $70 to $39
Sweet, thanks for the update!
Is this a corporate code?
Yes, that one mentioned is a corporate code.
what happened to the enterprise corporate codes?
I had to remove them unfortunately! I’d recommend that you check out the other car rental companies for good car rental codes.
I’ve been weary to use the IBM 40000 in case it might null the insurance if there’s an accident and they find out I’m not an employee. Looks like 1757580 for readers of CAR & DRIVER magazine offers an alright discount, and feels like there’s less risk involved. I’ve used this code with my last Hertz rental and had no problem. Wanted to share so you can maybe add it the list. Provides a better discount in Canada than Enterprise, National, or Avis
Thanks Matt. Yes the Car & Driver code is on the list already and a good one to use if you’re a fan of Hertz!
In Canada, apparently the CDP# 1629632 (DESJARDINS PRESTIGE CC) – Gold Visa allows for the same discount as the IBM 40000.
Has anyone used this before who isn’t a Desjardin card holder? I’m not seeing anywhere where it states you would need to make the purchase with that card – simply just being a card holder gets you that discount.
Has anyone ever had any problems using discounts offered by credit cards when they aren’t a credit card holder of that type?
Thanks for the Desjardins code. I’ve added it to the list! I am pretty sure they wouldn’t check. Your best bet is to try it on an upcoming trip and have a back up rental booking somewhere else in case.
Great site. Looking to pick up July 14-19 at RDU airport (return same place), I found Avis being the best. Is the Avis code C302100 a corporate code? If so what company. Thanks.
Hi Steve,
Yes, C302100 with Avis is a corporate code with Bombardier but I will say that it’s a riskier code to use since they often do check for ID since it’s a really good discount.
How can I find a code that works for Enterprise Car for a weekend or day rental in the DC area?
All of the Enterprise codes will work in the DC area. It’s just a matter of trying them and seeing which gives you the best offer based on your car class and dates.
Leaving Sioux City, Ia on the 26th and dropping the car in Las Vegas (either 2 days later or a week depending on the price, but can be in Vegas within 2 days). Any location pickup/drop, any time.
Thank you!
Hi Autumn, which month are you looking for? I’d recommend testing C302100 with Avis.
Hi-
Looking to rent a SUV- Tahoe/Suburban for the week of July 11th through the 18th in Vineland NJ area – same pick up/drop off- trying to find the best deal
Thanks in advance for you assistance and site
Hey Kim, I’m seeing $674.10 at Atlantic City (all local neighbourhood locations with Avis don’t carry the Tahoe) by using code C302100. I quickly checked Hertz as well but no nearby locations carry the Tahoe. National with code 5007150 is $517.67 but the only location is the Philadelphia Airport.
Thank you .. I guess, for doing what you love (traveling) and sharing the tips you have learned along the way with the rest of us!! Greatly appreciated this article. Had forgotten I also am an Emerald member and the ability to pick my own car. Stay safe out there. God bless
Thank you Jeannie! I’m passionate about travel and want to help others as well. Hopefully you’ll be able to take advantage of this soon!
Hey,
I’m wondering if you have any good codes for one ways from US to Canada and Canada to US. Also i’m only 21 so do you know which codes waive underage fees?
Thanks.
Hey AJ, there aren’t many codes here that waive underage fees but if we focus on those, National’s 5000491 or XZ53043. Good luck!
Hey!
We are needing to rent a full size SUV from April 3rd-April 13th. We are picking up and returning to the same location in Northern Virgina. What’s is the best code?
Hey! For most people I recommend these 3 codes: Hertz 40000, Avis W222853, and National XZ53043. Give those a shot and you should get a really good deal.
Hi!
Great website you have here! I read from the below comments that by the AWD (with Avis) may invalidate our claims, if insurance is already included in the price.
My query is – do you have any Avis codes which don’t include insurance? While we’d like to get a discount, we don’t want to risk voiding the insurance!
We’re looking to rent in Jun 20-24 Calgary > Edmonton (compact/economy) and Edmonton > Vancouver 30 Jun to 2 July (intermediate SUV)
Thanks!
Hi Philip, if that’s the case, definitely take a look at the codes that are in the Exclusive Offers section which are more of the general public codes and deals offered by car rental companies. The deals won’t be as good but you might find a few gems based on your itinerary.
Thanks for your reply Will
Sorry when you say use the codes from the “exclusive offer section”, do you mean as on your website? (or from Avis website directly)
When I tried to book without using any codes, I see that “LDW” is included in the rental; it’s the same when I use the code D486602 – so does that mean LDW is just included in any bookings anyway and I’m not enrolled onto any company insurance?
From what I can find online, I found D486602 seems to be linked to the “Avis affiliate program” (ie putting links on website to get commissions). I assume all affiliates get the same code to use… so that should suggest we’re safe… right?
Yes I was referring to the box that I label as “Exclusive Offers”. For the affiliate codes, you’re safe if you’re concerned about it being a corporate code.
Hey Will! Love the site. First time booking a rental car here, so take it easy on me :)
Looking to book Edmonton (city or airport, not picky) May 5 to May 9, 2020.
Best code/s to use?
Hey Ron, for most people I recommend these 3 codes: Hertz 40000, Avis W222853, and National XZ53043. Give those a shot and you should get a really good deal.
I am needing to rent a full size SUV (Suburban) to go pick up my son from Marine boot camp in two weeks. He will have a lot of gear to bring home. I’ve waited too long and now prices are higher. We have an Enterprise in our town. Should I go in person and talk to them?
Have you tried any of the codes for Enterprise?
I just saved $400.00 on my next trip!!
Do they ask something about the company? I used the code for National and it says Compass now… just wondering if I should come up with a good excuse for not having an ID from them :p
Thanks a lot!
That’s what I love hearing! To be honest I’ve never been asked for an ID with National so I think you’ll be ok!
Thanks so much for this info! Looks like this could be super helpful… STUPID question probably, but where in the world to do I actually input the codes on the National site while making a reservation? I can’t seem to find where they go… Thanks!
Good question! I know it’s not always clear. For National, it’s under “Account Number”.
Thanks for the blog/website. But just tried to use national code 5760339 but said no rates available. The XZ53043 code still shows that it works.
Thanks for the heads up! Sometimes this shows up because they limit the usage of certain codes at certain locations or they don’t have stock for that category of code.
Hi there, just found this site.
Wondering what the best deal is for a car rental (mid-size pref but compact will do in a pinch) from MN to AZ Match 19-30?
Hey! You might have to be a bit more specific on locations but for the best deals you should try Hertz’s 40000 code and Avis W222853
I am planning on using this code (40000) for a trip March 14 th. Can I get into trouble if I don’t work for the company? My kids said they won’t bail me out of jail if I get caught!! Lol
Yu should be fine! I haven’t had any issues with the code and others haven’t raised any alarms about it.
So happy I came across this website and thank you for the tips! I’m planning on renting a car (my first time ever!) at SEA airport from 2/23 – 3/1. I’m looking at either a standard sedan or a suv, whichever is the cheaper option. I saw the disclaimer in red too so I would like to use a coupon code that doesn’t affect me in the event something happens to the car. I also have a Costco membership too so for using a code like that would I need to book directly from Costco’s website? I was looking at Alamo with Costco discount for the Ford but not too sure if that’s a good deal or not. Is there a better deal?
How does the rent a car process even work especially when returning the car? Do they inspect before I leave to see if they need to charge me? I get worried they might charge my card after returning because I don’t know if I want to pay extra per day for damage coverage. Any other tips would be helpful because I am completely unaware of how this process works! Thank you so much!
Hi Sandy! For the Costco membership discount, you don’t have to go through the Costco website. You can apply the code directly from on the Enterprise page. When it comes to Alamo vs. Enterprise, I’d just go with whoever is cheaper based on your dates – it fluctuates but either company is fine.
When it comes to returning the car, they usually do a quick review when you get back to the airport and the charges are made to the credit card afterwards. Normally damages don’t come into play but what the extra charges are will be if you returned it without a full tank or decide to take their rate for fuel fill up. Add-ons like GPS etc. also get added. For damages, I honestly find that they’re not very thorough so if there’s some small curb damage or a nick/dent, they won’t catch it. For me, I never pay for extra CDW or additional coverage but that’s my personal preference. I hope that helps!
Hi! I am headed to San Juan Puerto Rico. Need a rental from February 15th -19 pick up doesn’t matter (staying in old San Juan), but we have to drop off at the airport. Thanks for any help!!!
Hey Chellie! I’m sorry I wasn’t able to get to you in time as I just returned from a trip. I hope you were able to find a good rental using one of the codes here!
Hi there for the compass group discount for national, my options online are pay at counter or “use other billing number”. I don’t know what they’re referring to with the billing number. I guess I can’t pay ahead with my credit card? Will it be a problem paying at the counter if I don’t work for compass? Thanks for all your amazing help!
That’s a good question. I’ve never used the “billing number” option as I normally try to reserve and pay later to give me the flexibility of cancelling if I need to. Compass might have a different arrangement it looks like.
Hi Will! Thank you for putting all these codes together! I am trying to find the cheapest rental for LAX, Feb 22- March 2. Rates are crazy high from LAX, especially with the $9.00 airport tax just towards building the rental car center! I was wondering what deal you might be able to find as the best I am at right now is about $325 all in from Budget. Any code but the Hertz IBM code! Thanks so much!!
If you use Avis code W222853, I’m seeing $271 all-in if you pay now or $319.95.
Do you have any scoops on pick-up truck discounts. I’m looking for better rates for Gainesville FL from Feb 7 evening to Feb 17 morning.
I posted this elsewhere. Apologies for the duplication. I also asked i you thought using the corporate codes might void personal credit car and auto insurance. I think you replied affirmatively to that to another query.
Hey Robin, sorry I got to this a little too late. I hope you were able to find a good code for your trip to Gainesville!
Can I use rental car coupon codes at the counter? Or only online?
I’ve never actually tried to use this at the counter but I am pretty sure these are all online-only.
Thanks for the tip! Much appreciated!
Hi! Love this site and refer to it often. Thank you. I’m looking to rent at AVL airport 1/1-1/8. It seems the best code out there is Hertz 4000. Do you ever get any feedback that renters are asked for corporate ID? Any tips on if that happens?
You’re welcome! There aren’t many sites these days that aggregate coupon codes so I’m glad I could help. In terms of corproate ID, I’ve never been asked all these years so I think you’ll be ok! I’m not sure if Hertz has this but if there’s a way to use their membership to do something like National’s Emerald Aisle where you can just pick up and go, there are even less chances of them asking you since you bypass the counter completely.
Hey Will,
I am looking to get a 3-day SUV rental starting from 12/23 and ending on 12/26. any suggestions would be super helpful. Thanks in advance for your effort. Thumbs Up!!
Hey, where are you looking to rent from?
Hi Will, I’m looking for a standard SUV (needs AWD) in the Buffalo, NY area from 12/28-1/1 (possibly 1/2 based on locations closed New Years Day). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Hey Mike! Based on your dates (I did it up to 1/2) Hertz is actually your best bet at $184.48 USD from the airport using code 40000. I’m sure if you play around with it a bit and are able to do a local rental in the city you might save even more money.
Hi,
Planning on YYC – Calgary Airport inTerminal pickup/drop offs only – no shuttles use – just walk in/across the terminal
PickUp YYC Jun 3 10:30 PM
Drop off YYC Jun 10 4:00 AM
7 passengers (SUV and/or MiniVan)
Just took a quick look and Avis W222853 is going to be your best bet. A full size SUV or Mini Van will cost you $746 USD if you pre-pay or $828.89 if you post-pay.
Need your help
Pickup LIR Jan 7 3 pm
Drop off SJO Jan 28 10pm
Standard SUV or larger Automatic
Go…..
So it looks like National Car Rental is going to be your best bet with code XZ53043. For an standard SUV (automatic), I’m seeing $1,374.34 USD. Really good price considering I’m seeing closer to $2000+ for everywhere else for an SUV and automatic. Good luck!
Hi Will, it was the wrong field. Am I going to need to show ibm credentials or anything? Does it change insurance coverage or anything?
Thanks!
You won’t be asked for credentials so you’re safe there but from an insurance coverage standpoint that’s something that you’ll be forfeiting whenever you use a corporate code.
Will, is even your credit card and/or own auto insurance cancelled or is it only the insurance provided by the rental agency.
I’m looking for codes for a rental from Gainsville Feb 7 to Feb 17, 2020.
Thanks much. Glad to find this site and happy to support.
*knock on wood*, I’ve never had to test this theory so I really can’t say. I think if everything was followed by the book, I would imagine credit card insurance companies might have something to say but also at the same time, there might be no way for them to find out. Wish I had a definitive answer!
Hi Will,
I tried to use the 40000 code but it didn’t work, do I need to sign up or anything to access it or did I miss it? Maybe because I’m in Canada?\
Thanks
Hey Tim, you might’ve just used the incorrect field. The one that you’re looking for is called the Discount/CDP/Club Code: 40000. Let me know if it works!
Hi,
I just found your website and I think it’s great!
I need to rent a car in Tampa Florida from Dec 15 2019-Jan 7 2020.
Based on all of the codes that you have seen recently, which option do you
think is the best one?
Many Thanks.
Hey David – if you use Avis and code W222853, it’s $792 if you pay now for a compact but with Hertz discount 40000 you’ll see a Standard 2/4 Door like a Jetta for $799. Things are expensive because of the holidays and length but these might be your best options.
Hi Will,
Im trying to find the best deal on an suv for MCO march 15-22. 348US is the best I have found. I only was in terminal pick up and drop. Can you work any better magic than me?
Hey Tim! If you take a look at Hertz and use promo code 40000 where I’m seeing $201.6 USD which is killer!
Good day, great site and very useful, looking to go to Orlando, from 6th April till 17th April, do you have any information on the rate? Thanks
A good one is using Avis code W222853 where I’m seeing $396 USD if you pre-pay or $440 if you don’t. Contrast that to National XZ53043 where I do see $418.55 for an Economy. Both are unlimited mileage.
Just to make sure I understand this, the W222853 code gets enter in which box? I have tried and no success with discount. sorry I’m new at this
For the Avis codes, they actually call them AWD# so throw it in there and you should be good!
You said if you use corporate codes it might be a problem if there is an insurance claim? What if you’re using your own car insurance coverage or credit card coverage?
Still invalid?
That’s the risk because insurance companies could say that you used the codes incorrectly and nullify and coverage whether it be with the rental or with your credit card.
Hello, first off, fully appreciate what you’re doing. I think I’m relatively good when it comes to getting car discounts but hoping you can help me get a better deal.
I’m looking to rent a full size car, one way, from Ann Arbor to Chicago Airport (ORD) on 30-nov (12pm) – 1-Dec (12pm). I am specifically looking for a free one-way with unlimited miles. I either get one or the other, but can’t get both.
Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.
Hey Matt, I took a look and it looks like Avis doesn’t have availability but was able to find a good rate with National by using code XZ53043. It comes out to $43.30 but mileage isn’t included (0.40 per mile). If you want unlimited mileage, code 5000491 comes out to $90.58. Best of luck!
I am looking to rent a car from the Kona Airport on the Big Island of Hawaii from 2:30pm March 13-4:00pm April 6, 2020. I have a Costco Membership, but don’t know if they honor any discounts for Alamo/Enterprise, which is what they use. We would prefer a medium SUV or similar due to the mountain driving. Any tips/recommendations are greatly appreciated. Cee Zee
They should honor your Costco Membership regardless of car rental company. For your dates, I’ve done a few checks and Avis with W222853 is showing $1,425.60 for a standard SUV and $1,403.08 USD with National using code XZ53043
Hey, do you have the list from last year & year before? (either 2017 or 2018) I had a code i always used and i can’t find it anywhere. But i think you had it listed on an old version of this article. Let me know. Thanks!
Hey Jenn, I don’t believe I do! I haven’t made too many wholesale changes since I wrote this piece unless you’re thinking about the previous article which was this one: https://goingawesomeplaces.com/car-rental-coupon-codes/
Just stumbled across this site and really appreciate what you’re doing here! I’m not much of a traveler, and I’m a little overwhelmed trying to figure out the best way to do things.
I’m taking my first trip to Hawaii next month, arrive at Honolulu airport at 11am on Nov 2nd and leave Nov 12th at 1:30pm. I think I’d like to rent a car while I’m there, but I don’t necessarily need to have it the whole time. For example, if it dramatically improves the prices I could do the 4th-11th? I’m also interested in possibly upgrading to something premium / luxury / sporty if it doesn’t inflate the price by a crazy amount.
So far I’m seeing options in the $400-450 range for an upgraded car for the full 2nd-12th trip duration using sites like Expedia. I do also have a Costco membership and could try booking through them.
I should mention that I’m wary of the cheapo car rental places. The only time I’ve ever tried renting a car was through… I think maybe Budget? It was an absolutely horrible experience. I do like the idea of being able to pick out a car myself, like you mentioned with National, but it’s certainly not a requirement.
I feel so lost. Can you help?
Hey! I can totally understand – car rental rates wildly fluctuate and aren’t consistent from company to company. So I did a little bit of research right now and your best bet at the end of the day is going to be the Avis code W222853 which is showing me $269.28 (prepay) or $316.80 (pay at counter). You could upgrade to a compact recreational (Jeep Wrangler) for $376.78 (prepay) and it goes up from there. I would recommend sticking to your arrival and departure dates only because going back and forth to HNL afterwards is going to be an extra cost to cab back and forth and for the hassle, it’s not worth it. The only reason why you’d try to shorten your dates is if because maybe there are significant parking savings by doing this?
I hope this helps!
Thank you so much!
Will I love your site! Looking for a full-size SUV or possibly minivan at Tucson airport picking up 11 AM November 1 and dropping off 330 November 4. Any help or Guidance would be greatly appreciated around the cheapest rate. Thanks!
Just checked and if you use Avis code W222853 and I’m seeing $267.84 if you prepay for a full-size SUV.
Love the site. Looking for tips on getting a good rental. I have a booking at TXL June 28 to July 31 intermediate with hertz for 253EUR. But depending on what the flight prices are from YEG-TXL i’m also looking at July 12 to August 21. Am I looking too soon? Whats your suggestion.
That’s an insanely good price for a car rental for THAT long. That’s over a month!! If you’ve locked that in and you can’t find that for July 12-Aug 21, I’d be inclined to keep your original car rental reservation. If they’re the same, and you’re flexible, book both and just keep an eye on it. If the prices drop, just rebook it and cancel the old one.
I think it has to be a glitch.. the July timeline would be much better but I don’t think i’d be able to get anywhere close to that price. right now i’m seeing 1128EUR for July 12 to August 21.
the cheap one i’m keeping in my back pocket :) In looking for the July 12 timeline… any way to guess as to what the price could go to? is there usually a sweet spot in booking? 6 weeks ahead.. 3 months?
Yeah if you’ve got that I would plan your travel around those dates. I was seeing 1000+ EUR as well so I was pretty surprised when I looked earlier.
For July 12 timeline, it could go down but I’ve usually only seen prices go up so I would just lock something in for now. Sweet spot wise, my guess is around 3-6 months but I’m totally guessing. I always try to book it right after I figure out my flights and I check it periodically. What’s great about car rentals is that you can always cancel later.
Looking for the best deal on a car or small suv for 3. Will land in Ft Lauderdale international on nov 7 2019 and leave nov 10.
For a small SUV, you should go with Avis and code W222853. I’m seeing $180 or $162 if you pay now.
Ty! Your site made that so much easier. I’ve shared with several friends who travel a lot and could really benefit.
You’re welcome! So glad I was able to help and thank you for spreading the word :)
Hello Chief of Awesome. I have time off soon (Nov 27-Dec 2). Looking to get a one way rental to a far away destination either east or west coast leaving from CLL or AUS. I would fly back to either original location to come home. Advice? Alternatively I have come up with is a one way flight to SAN from AUS and an Alamo one way rental back to AUS for about 270 bucks.
Well I took a look and I don’t know if this is too much of a stretch but you can pick up from CLL and drive all the way up to SEA. Something as far as that as a one way using National code XZ53043 is $336.05 for a standard SUV which is crazy.
Looking for a mini van or SUV for a trip to Las Vegas, NV from Santa Fe/Abq area. Its Balloon Fiesta time and almost impossible to find a car. any help?
leaving 10/10 return 10/15
Hi Leandra, I just took a look and there’s a ton of available with National at $231.15 using code XZ53043. YOu’re right though, Avis is completely out. This is a pick up and return from Los Alamos Airport. Good luck!
So Im not sure what to do. Thinking of flying into Las Vegas, NV picking up a rental car there staying a few days then driving to the LA area. SO need a comfortable car..I’m thinking mid to full size. The rates I’ve gotten are the best with Fox rental car but have never used them and since taking a road trip I don’t want to chance it with a car company I don’t know anything about.
I do not want to pre pay as my plans may change. Here is my info…
PU Las Vegas (not sure if it would be cheaper off airport), 10/22/19-11/5/19, morning PU, 9am and return same time. Was also wondering about the costco code. Im not a member but could be ;). I am AAA/AARP.
Your thoughts? Thank you!
Hi Pam, Fox has actually been around for awhile. They’re more on the budget side of things but if you find a really good rate with them I’d give them a shot. You can also try Advantage and I have a code with them on the site if you do a quick search. Lastly, try my commonly recommended Avis and National codes to see what you get.
Hi will , great site btw .. Can you help me looking for a good rate:
Details: Fort Lauderdale airport
From November 15th 2019 to November 18th 2019. Preferably a Convertible . Thanks in advance
If you use Avis code W222853 I’m seeing $468.72 (prepaid) for your dates. It gets much cheaper if you’re just looking for a Standard Sports car ($235.44)
Does national ask for proof when using the corporate codes you posted?
I have never been asked for proof at National.
Hi Will
Great site ….. but a bit overwhelming.
You you mind helping me with searching for a good rate. Following are the details:
– Rental location: Ohare International Airport , Chicago (or any cheaper location 15 miles radius)
-Dates: From Nov 26 to Dec 13
– Preferably Mini Van but a Full size SUV will work also
Thanks in advance for your help
Nickhole
Hi Nickhole, Chicago is always tricky and the airport fees are pretty killer so I’d look at something off-site to really try to save some money. For a minivan with Avis, I’m seeing $796.50 (not pre-pay) using code W222853 which is really good considering I’m seeing 1000+ with other places. Best of luck!
I’m a little overwhelmed and could use your help. Need a rental (prefer small or mid SUV) from October 10 to October 15 from Providence (PVD). Prefer not to pre-pay. Any ideas?
Hi Bridget, I’m seeing $366.94 for a standard SUV for your dates with National’s XZ53043 code.
Thanks, Will. Do I enter that code as a Coupon? I can’t seem to get it to work for me.
Hey Bridget, which car rental company are you trying to use your coupon on? Some of them have different terminology for them. For instance, National is actually under the “Account Number” field.
If I use the National code for Carlson Leisure Group Account code that you provided will they ask for proof of this at National Rental car in Denver Colorado Airport??
I have never been asked so you won’t have any issues!
Hi Will,
First time renting a car, so would like to get your help in finding the best deal since all these codes are a bit overwhelming.
Pick up and return at LAS, from Nov 23 to 29. 3 people with carry on and one luggage (I am guessing a mid size or standard car will work?)
Thank you!
Hi Lorraine, totally understandable! There are a lot of codes out there to try and it can be overwhelming. If you try Avis code W222853 for a standard car, it’s $264.60 if you prepay. With National using code XZ53043 for a standard, it’s $273.26 Total which are really good prices. Best of luck!
Hi Will, great site! Looking to do a one-way from Rochester, NY to Boston, MA in mid-October. Those drop off fees are huge! Any ideas, thoughts?
Thanks!
I’m seeing a pretty good rate with National with code XZ53043 which is usually good for one-ways. Give it a shot and let me know! Also, with National, Boston has a few non-airport locations so you can try those as well.
Hi Will, I will be flying into Denver airport nov 4th -9th. Need an intermediate suv. Would like to go thru hertz. Any ideas would be great.
Thx Kim
If you’re looking to stick with Hertz for those dates and intermediate SUV, the best would be code 2180208 which I’m seeing for $318.87.
Hey Will! Im new here but I hope this isn’t too last minute but I’m looking for 7 seater. From SAN to Vegas Round trip on 09/19-09/23 . I’m Executive elite and tried using XZ53043 but wasn’t working :(
Hey Ryan, it worked for me although since September 19 is already past, I tried September 20-24. I’m seeing $255.03 for a Premium Car using XZ53043
For some reason, I didn’t book my rental car last week for a trip in October and the price has gone from $270 to over $600! Every coupon, every company seems to be extremely high for 10/27-21 out of BOS. Six travelers so probably need a van or full size SUV. Help! We can’t pay $700+ just to go see my kid at college for the weekend! :)
Will they drop again, you think? Is this just an anomaly? Average was around $300 last week, over $600 this week…
Hey Melanie, thank you for taking the time to comment here and ask for help. So yes this does tend to happen and the game that car rental companies play but it’s really hard to say what triggers a price increase like that. So what you want to try is Avis code W222853 and using Oct 21-27 for Boston, I’m seeing $375.61 if you pay now for a Mini-Van or Standard SUV (I know not Full-Size) for $255.51 if you squeeze in. Good luck!
Will, Thank you so much for being so kind and helpful! Trying this one now. Is this a coupon I have to worry about ID for? I would love to try the one Dimi says but that scares me if they check me! I’m a genteel Southern lady and would be knocking in my boots if someone questioned me :)
Yes I probably wouldn’t recommend using the Canadian government one. The code I offered earlier is one that you can use pretty comfortably as I know Avis doesn’t check for ID. Best of luck!
Will, can I use the National code on the Emerald Aisle deal? I know you like being able to just go get the keys in whatever car on the aisle, but I’m not seeing a place to put a code since I joined the Aisle.
Thanks,
Melanie
Yes you can use codes even if you are Emerald Club member. In fact, that’s probably the best way to use codes because you don’t need to speak to anyone at the counter. You book it with the code and when you get to the rental center, just walk out to the aisle and then grab and go!
T20132 Enterprise Code
Works with suv and pickups.
The discount is crazy up to 40% but use with caution it’s a goverment code.
Hey Dimi! Thanks for sharing this. Super helpful for the group and I’ve added it to the collection. I’d love to hear from anyone here that uses it whether you have any issues using it and whether they check for ID or not.
Wow, Dimi, that is a GREAT coupon!! It not only says government, but CANADIAN government and I’m not sure a southern drawl (Mississippi) would convince anybody! Oh, how tempting….what’s the worse that could happen??
Hi Will, we will be following your Ireland itinerary beginning October 10th. We will be picking up a rental in Dublin and dropping it off in Cork. Any news on good one way car rentals?
You’ll find good rates with Europcar in Ireland, if you book through your mobile phone, you might even save more money. Try your dates for the one-way rental and see the rates!
Hi will! My family is traveling to Tampa Dec 18-27 this year. There are 7 of us. Rentals are 800! Almost more than we paid for all our flights! Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated!!
I just took a look and if you rent from National using code XZ53043 I’m seeing $504.15 for a mini-van (fits 7).
Hi,
Looking to rent one way from San Francisco to Denver- Sept 15- 22nd. I’m not seeing anything for under 650/700. Do you see anything?
Thanks
I took a quick look and you’re right I really don’t see anything at all! I’ve seen either no availability or really expensive prices because of the one-way. Where are you currently seeing around 650/700?
Hi, im looking for at least 5 people vehicle, minimum luggage. Kitchener, Ontario to new York
Sept 6- 3:30pm
To Sept 16 3:30pm
Same drop off
Please help!
Hi! I took a look and there are quite a number of Enterprise locations in Kitchener. For an Intermediate SUV, it’s $438 CAD if you use code CSTCVST
Will-
I’m so sorry to be asking you again, but it appears that a lot of vehicles are taken in san francisco on 12/28.
Any help would greatly be appreciated. Looking for tahoe size vehicle from San francisco on 12/28 and drop off at RNO (airport) on 1/3. Having very little luck on the san francisco end- willing to pick up anywhere within 20 miles of downtown.
TY
Kim
Hey Kim! Looks like the prices have gone up since I last looked. To be honest, it looks like the prices only go up when you look at pick-up spots outside of SFO. What is actually very cheap is if you’re okay with a mini-van. Using National code XZ53043, I’m seeing $378.95 total.
Will-
Unfortunately we have to drive through the snow- do you see anything for a full size SUV at all? I’m actually willing to pay more if I can get a car.
Thanks in advance
Yes, if you use the same code it’s $ 385.01 for a standard-SUV (Ford Edge or similar).
Flying into Salt Lake City Utah August 30 leaving September 2 I need a cheap rental car for the stay and times for rental to be picked up and returned Salt Lake City airport
Hi Charlotte, I took a look and if you use Avis code W222853 and I’m seeing $130.95 if you pay now for a Compact or $135 if you pay later. I tried National but seeing a slight increase in price.
Will, you’re obviously not AARP age yet, but is it possible to combine their member benefit discounts on car rental (which is a good 30% for Avis and Budget) with your coupon offers?
Going to Orlando Labor Day weekend Fri. 8pm to Tues. 1 pm. We’ll take the rental from the airport for convenience. Backed out of NU car (NVM the cost) which is outside of MCO airport because they never had a good review.
Do car rental rates go up or down during holidays?
Hi Debbie, for the AARP discounts, how do you enter your membership or discount code in the system? That is probably going to be an indication of whether you can combine them or not since on all platforms, there’s typically only one field for a code which means you can’t put in multiple ones.
I’d say when it comes to holidays that they do go up just because the supply is going to be much lower with people snatching them quickly
Good info! Enterprise has the best car rental service. Once my friend is indeed of a car. Then, I have suggested a coupon code ‘ apncspy ‘ from Mycoupons and he got benefited.
Thanks for sharing – do you know what this coupon does? I just did a quick test of a booking for SFO and didn’t see a change in rates.
We plan to rent a car in Denver on 25th August for a week, we applied for some coupns but did not work. Any ideas?
Which ones did you try? Give Avis and the W222853 code and you should see a good discount on your rental.
Hi
Looking for Full size SUV from San Fran on 12/28 with a return location at RNO (airport preferably) on 1/3
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
We are wanting to rent car in Las Vegas on September 22, 2019 and leave it in Denver on September 29, 2019. 2 people who both need to be authorized to drive. Looking for the best deal. We are flexible on type of vehicle, but don’t want the smallest car.
If we’re doing this based on a mid-sized, I’m seeing $387.09 with Avis code (W222853) and $301.98 with National code and on top of that you get a Premium class car (XZ53043).
Hi, Great site!
Looking at renting a full size car or SUV in Kahului (OGG) from Aug 16 to 27th…Do you have any recommendations?
Cheers!
Hey Tom, a full-size with Avis (W222853) is $510.00 for your upcoming dates or $516 with National (XZ53043). SUV’s are going to cost more.
Looking for the best deal. Full-Size or larger. CHS Sep 1 (1pm) drop Sep 7 (Noon)
I’m seeing a Full Size for $256 with Avis code W222853
Looking for at least a mid-size car for pickup at Tampa Airport on August 30th and drop off on September 4th. Will not be making any changes so I will pay now to save.
With Avis and code W222853, I’m seeing $156 for pay later of $140.40 if you pay now for an Intermediate car for your dates which is really good.
Looking to rent for a full size suv (like a Ford expedition) or Truck (Silverado) from Salt Lake City Airport. Dec 25th- 31st. Those dates have been difficult to find good rates. Is it better to wait to book?
Your best bet is probably with Avis using code W222853 where you can get a Full Size Pick Up for $253 if you prepay which is an amazing deal. I would book asap because prices won’t really drop as you get closer to the date.
Looking for LAS PU on 10/30/19 at 8:30am ret 11/8 at 11:30am. I do not want a prepay rate. Would also be interested in LAS PU and a BUR ret..same days above. Also would like to know…I’ve heard you can get some really good discounts with Costco, do they check for Costco ID? THANK YOU!
so I did a quick check with my usual suspects and with National (LAS->BUR) using code XZ53043 is $476.05 USD (Premium car)which is cheaper than the Avis option. Now if you do LAS->LAS using code W222853 with Avis, you’ll get $300.86 USD with an Economy Car.
In regards to Costco discounts, I don’t believe they check Costco ID but others can chime in with direct experience.
Nope, I haven’t been checked.
Thanks for chiming in!
I had a rental reservation and messed up by cancelling… Curious if you can help: Landing in Newark on August 24th and returning same on September 7th. The airport fees are CRAZY… But I’m landing at 3 pm so that rules out a lot of the local sites too. Thoughts?
I just took a look and on Avis using W222853 and it’s $499 for a compact car which is a pretty good deal considering some other places were coming up with $1000+ rates.
Hi,
I am looking for cheapest car rental in Dallas area from around 1st week of Aug for 1 month.
Any suggestions.
I did a quick test with Avis code A538102 and for Aug 6 – Sept 6 from Dallas (non Airport), I’m seeing $644.
I’m looking for a car for a 1-month trip in the USA. From Chicago to San Francisco, on from 2 to the 27th of September. the drop off fee is really expensive (between 800$ and 1200$). Any recommendations to get the cheapest price?
Thanks for your answer!
Hey I did a quick look around and really the closest I could get is with National (XZ53043) at $1736 and Hertz (2180208) at $1794. Best of luck!
Looking for a rental in Reno Nevada Dec 28th till the 3rd of January… Willing to pickup outside the airport, but needs to be SUV-Tahoe size.
Best price?
Was also considering a second option:
Pick up rental in san francisco on the 28th- drive to Reno and deposit in Reno on the 3rd of January…
Thanks in advance for your help-
Hi Kim, the best deal I could found was through Avis with code W222853. I’m seeing a Tahoe from the airport at $535.50 USD if you pay in advance.
I want to go travel to las vegas on July 31 to Aug 4, but I only have a debit card and my age was less than 25. How can I get a better price?
I just checked and when you use National code XZ53043, an economy car is $200.84 Total and no underage fee is required.
Hi, I’m looking for a one way car rental: pick up San diego airport (SAN) Dec 3, 2019 and drop off at SFO Dec 15, 2019.
The cheapest I’m seeing is $700 US with some discount codes. Any suggestions to save some money would be great!
Thanks
I just checked National code XZ53043 and I’m seeing $570 USD (Premium). If you’re a fan of Avis, code W222853 it’s $867 USD (Economy) so a little higher than your $700 quote.
I’m looking for a 1 month rental in London, ON from 18 August to 18 September. Any recommendations to get the cheapest price:
Using Avis W222853 you can get something as little as $698 CAD! Sweet deal!
I’m looking for a 1 month rental in London, ON from 18 August to 18 September. Any suggestions?
I am looking for one way car rental. Pickup car from anywhere around Farmington Hills (48335) on Aug 21st and Dropping in ORD (Chicago airport). SUV or upper whichever is the cheaper.
Please let me know the best deals if you have come across any.
FYI – I have found something from ARB to ORD (drop off) for $106. But I am looking for more discount on base price so it comes around $60. Please let me know.
I did a quick look and didn’t find anything cheaper than $60. Closest I got was $122.96 and that was for an Economy car. I presume you meant this is a pick up and drop off on the same day.
Hi Will, i’m looking for a one way rental pick up at SFO and return at LAX from july 21 to 26. I would need a full size suv or minivan for my kids and all our stuff. Any good suggestions on which one should i use? I find it quite expensive for $1,200+.
Hey Andy, sorry for the late response there, hopefully you were able to find a good code here!
I’m looking for a one way rental from Downers Grove, IL to Bellevue, WA from August 3 to August 16. Any suggestions on coupons to eliminate/reduce the $700+ one way charge? I could pick or drop at ORD or SEA, if that helps eliminate charge.
If you use W222853 with Avis, I’m seeing $840.75 USD for the one-way rental (Standard class) and there’s no specific one-way charge. Hope that helps!
I am a Canadian travelling to Orlando Fl and looking to rent a minivan for a week on Jan 6, 2020. Any coupons apply?
Hi Dar, all these coupon codes are good for anytime of the year so you don’t have to worry about that. If you’re looking for a good deal, currently Avis W222853 is a community favourite. If you like National, 5000491 can often yield good results.
i mean not SUV…regular full size car like camry ?
Hey Looking for 8/1 buffalo (BUF) morning and drop of BWI (Maryland airport) on 8/6 evening.
Could you please suggest good option.
I need fullsize or intermediate SUV
If you’re looking for a full-size SUV, the best price would be using W222853 with Avis which is showing $575.12 for this one-way rental if you pay now.
Can u recommend for full size?
I’d just use the same code and choose a full-size.
Hey guys just wanted to report that I used one of the codes above and got rid of the young renter fee. I can’t quite remember what code it was. But my friend was visiting and we needed a car to roam around.
Reserved a standard for $135 for 3 days got upgraded to an SUV for free, went into the lot to pick up the car and saw this awesome convertible Mustang, my friend said he’ll cover the difference up to $200 if I asked to change to the Mustang, went back inside the office and ended up getting the Mustang for 4 days for $305. Thanks so much for this post.
P.S. it was an Avis airport location.
Hey thanks for sharing your story! I can’t believe I didn’t put the underage notes in the tables so that’s a great reminder. It’s updated and glad things worked out!
I am looking for a rental from Edmonton, Canada (YEG) on August 2 9:00 a.m to August 11 (same drop-off location). Preference is for a Van or SUV. Can you help me find a good deal?
Thanks.
I’m seeing a Full Size SUV with Avis (W222853) for your dates at $695.93 CAD if you pay right away. Compare that to $1,191.44 with National.
I am attempting to pickup from Rapid City (RAP) on 9/25 and drop-off at Kalispell (FCA) on 10/3 but am having trouble finding anything reasonable.
I just took a quick look on National with 5000491 and it’s $405.48 for this one-way rental. Best of luck!
And that’s a pretty good price, considering 1 week of rental, and 1 way trip.
Hope you can help. the vehicle we are to take on vacation needs to go to the shop. Leaving Friday.
Need Intermediate+ SUV or mini van 7/11 evening or 7/12 morning (whichever is better rate) -7/21 evening (or 7/22 if better rate) Pittsburgh area.
I was at one point able to get standard SUV down to $487 w/ A519300 but now isn’t giving me the same rate when I went back to book.
Thank you
Sorry this is a bit late but when I did 7/12 to 7/21 from Pittsburgh airport and I’m seeing $516.45 with 5000491 with National
No worries- I appreciate your feedback.
The good news is that are use the code on your blog, and were able to get a rental fee of $488 all included. Thanks so much.
Hello, I am looking for a deal of intermediate or standard size car Sept. 17-26 renting at SEA TAC Internat’l Airport. So far best deal is $287 through Kayak for intermediate. Might you know of a better deal? Thank you so much for your assistance and advice!
You’re looking pretty far out in advance and if you use code W222853 with Avis I’m seeing $276.87 which is slightly cheaper than what you’re seeing with Kayak.
Thank you!
Going to LA (LAX), 23/07-11/08. What’s best deal I can get for car rental? My budget is USD 1000.
For National (XZ53043), I’m seeing $849.75 and Avis (W222853), I’m seeing $688.50 for a full size if you use the “Pay Now” option.
any good enterprise codes
Have you tried CSTCVST or CSTCUPG?
Not a big difference with those codes
Yeah I’d say unfortunately Enterprise doesn’t have too many great codes – That’s why my preference is still to National and Avis.
Hi, we are a family of 5 and are due to land in Houston texas at George Bush airport on July 15 thru the 23. We need a larger SUV. Can you help?
You can get a full-size SUV for $461.63 with Avis using W222853 which is an amazing price for dates that are coming up so soon.
Will be leaving july 25 – aug 5 and we need a van maybe 8-15 passenger. it will be a road trip going to northern part of west coast starting santa clarita,ca.
So far I’ve taken a look at Avis and National and the largest vehicle out there is a 7-seater with a mini-van or full size SUV. That won’t cut it with your group right? As an idea I’m seeing mini-van for $593.64 for your dates with Avis.
If you were to use AVIS, with AWD discount code: W222853
Pick up from Bob Hope Airport, they have 7 passenger Standard Elite SUV for $679 or a 7/8 passenger Full Size SUV for $1,114
Pickup from Gateway Village Shopping Center, they have 7 passenger Standard Elite SUV for $557 or a 7 passenger mini van for $593
Thank uou so much! For your help. I would take a look at that tonight.
You’re awesome!
You’re most welcome!

Hi Will,
Thanks for your website and all the information. I’ll be renting a standard car at TPA from July 27-Aug 10. The cheapest price I can find is the Hertz IBM discount for $479 all in. Just wondering if you knew of a better deal. Thanks again!
I just took a look with my usual codes I use for National and Avis and that looks like a really killer deal! Avis was close but closer to $600 and National is close to $1000.
When I initially left a comment I seem to have clicked the -Notify me when new
comments are added- checkbox and now each time a comment is added
I receive four emails with the same comment. There has to be an easy method you can remove me from that service?
Thank you!
Hey, I just tried to find your e-mail in the service but wasn’t able to locate it – this is for [email protected] correct?
Hi, if I used one of the codes for national and prepay , will they ask to see if I work for the company? I also seen some codes on retailmenot , and one was listed as Honeywell personal use. Granted it gave me a sweet deal , I’m afraid they may ask to show Id that I work for the company.
The chances are low especially if you’re using Avis or National. Another reason to sign up for their programs is that you can bypass the counter and I find that this is additional measure to make sure things go smoothly because you go straight to your car to pick up in National’s case.
Hello Will, we would like to rent a car for a roadtrip on the pacific coast highway (from San francisco city to LAX). My fiancé and I would love to rent a convertible. We’re leaving San Francisco on the 25th of june and flying from LAX on the 29th. We can’t seem to find a daily rental rate lower than 200 usd. Do you know of any coupon that might help us please ?
You’re right, the price is quite expensive for the one-way rental. I did find Avis at $823.68 by using code W222853 which you can try.
We are trying to book a One-Way rental at Hertz, Redding AIrport (RDD) to SFO (or South San Francisco, where they have an off-airport locale we used before).
We cannot seem to beat the $74 base rate. Can you help us?
Dates: Oct 26, drop off Oct 27, 2019. Ford Focus or better.
HEY, WILL and everyone: the AVIS CODE WORKED awesomely and I got the VERY best discount that I could find and I REALLY tried, including the BS Deal from Amazon and my other avenues.
TONS OF THANKS for this savings!!!
Dave
I’m so glad this worked out for you Dave!
Thanks for the article. Need to rent a car in NY, flying into JFK but would rather get one away from airport. Getting there early August and need car for about 3-4 weeks.
Any helpful tips/info would be appreciated.
Hey Andre! Okay so I took a look and if you’re looking to get a rental outside of the airport, there’s an Enterprise here: 13007 Merrick Blvd, Jamaica, NY 11434, USA. That could help you save money from the airport fees but you do have to account for the cab to and from the airport. Otherwise, try the codes to see if you can do better by just renting from the airport which will at the end of the day be more convenient.
I’ve made a reservation for a trip through Avis using W222853 which saved a crazy amount of money…but I’m wondering how likely it is they will ask for ID? Has anyone had experience with this?
For that particular code, I’m actually not sure if it’s tied to a specific corporation as it doesn’t say. Doing some research as well, most people that have used it have never raised any issues at all. I’d be pretty confident using it!
I used it all the time, throughout many different airports. not once they ask for an ID
It also doesn’t have a minimum required days. W222853 can be used to reserve for only couple hours or couple months, or anything in between.
Thanks for the heads up!
I had a negative experience with Avis where I unknowingly used a corporate code (off the internet) to make the reservation, when I got there, they did ask for ID and I was forced to rebook at the current (last minute) going rental rate which was three times higher than if I had originally booked without a code. I will NEVER make that mistake again. I am careful to only use legit codes now.
Thank you for sharing this Lizzie! Do you remember which code you used? One thing that’s helped over the years for me is having membership with each of the companies and with National it works out well because they have Emerald Aisle and you can bypass the counter completely which means no checks. Just something to keep in mind!
I just used one of the national codes (and I’m an emerald club memeber) and it said I need to go to the counter. that makes me nervous as usually i just go to the emerald club isle. this is in las vegas. Any thoughts?
Hey! I don’t think it should be an issue as I know a lot of folks haven’t had issues with National and asking for business cards or ID.
Using w222853 for Avis, will not ask for an ID. Guaranteed!
When I put in AWD W222853 for Avis, it wants a last name also. What do you put in there? Thanks
You need to put those codes under AWD field, under discount codes, NOT under Avis Wizard Number.
Thanks for jumping in Gene!
I found Hertz CDP #2180208 to give very cheap rates. i dont think it waives the underage fee for those under 25 tho.
Amazing thank you for sharing Evan! I’ve added it to the list.
My wife and I are going to Hawii in July and we plan on using Hertz to rent our car. I want to use CDP code 2006142 (Woodforest National Bank– found the code on another site). Do you guys know if Hertz will require any sort of proof of employment to use that CDP code? Thank you.
Hey Chris! Thanks for sharing that code with the group. I’ve added it to the list and it’s a good one. Okay so with Hertz I’ve never tried it personally but with National and Avis I’ve never been asked ID. On top of that, for some spots Hertz has something called Hertz Ultimate Choice where they’ve kind of copied National and allow people to just go out and pick cars. Talking to less people often means less chances of people checking ID. That said, would love to hear from anyone else that has had more experience with Hertz!
Hey there! I am looking to book a 5 day rental from SFO to LAX in June. I checked out the codes for National and they don’t appear to be valid – am I missing something? I was logged in as an Emerald member at the time. Thanks
Hey Tamara, they should work! When you entered the codes, this is a bit counterintuitive but enter them under “Account Number”.
So the code for national 5000491 that is inclusive of cdw gives me a super cheap rate for a cabo san lucas rental and then says its a Standard Business Program A account and I have no options to add any kind of insurance. Is that inclusive of the required liability or would you think I’d need to pay extra once I arrived and was provided the contract?
Hi Matt, so for that code it is inclusive of CDW insurance. I’ve never run into any accidents when using that code but I can’t say for sure how that would work from a claim perspective if they do find out you don’t actually hold employment at a specific employer that this program is under. So that is definitely one of the trade-offs of using that particular code.
Would the staff there at the national rental office ask for employment verification when collecting the car since that code specifically lists a company?
Let me clarify…one of the codes didn’t specifically notate insurance and was quite cheap. The other code included both liability and cdw and was more expensive and lists a construction company as the account holder. Liability is what I was under the impression is mandatory and the cdw can be added to cover collision damage. I wasn’t sure of the liability being included in the first code you listed since national did not show it in the confirmation
Any codes for national car rental?
Yes there are codes in this article for National.
Sweet I’m glad you were able to find a good deal!
For flights, I do flight deals with the weekly newsletter if you’re interested in signing up https://goingawesomeplaces.com/flight-deals-subscribe/
Do you have car rental codes for 2019?
Thanks
All the codes here are valid for 2019!
W222853 has given me biggest discounts. Not sure about under 25 there.
Yes that’s a good one!
This scares me a bit. I came here, as we all do, by Googling coupon codes. I found the article and quickly did a “Ctrl + F” and searched for “Enterprise”. Due to the short notice and a family emergency I am rapidly making the booking and felt I had no time to read the article (SORRY!). However, right before I was about to check out I thought “Hmm, I wonder if he mentions someone checking if I’m a Costco member” and returned to start reading. When I came upon the red print I was shocked.
So, to confirm, if I use this code to save $20-$30 dollars, I may end up in a situation (accident) where my Costco membership comes into question? So when my bluff is called, my insurance will be invalid and I will owe them thousands of dollars? This is a very scary thing to think about, and then to consider how many other people have potentially used these codes without reading, as I had almost done.
If you have any opportunity to clarify any additional details you may have about this before tomorrow afternoon, I would greatly appreciate it! As much as I want to save some money, the risk seems WAY higher than the reward to me, but I want to be sure I understand this.
-A Concerned Renter
Hey! Well the truth is that’s a bit of a risk you take by using corporate codes from companies you technically don’t work for. I think they’re worth using if there’s a substantial saving but if you’re balancing a small discount to potentially not being able to make a proper insurance claim, you might be better off not using the code. I hope that helps!
When you use corporate code that has insurance included (as part of their deal), and you try to file a claim through Avis, this is where your claim might get denied, because technically, it’s tied to the company, because you didn’t pay anything for it, the company technically did.
But if you use a corporate code (best one I use is: W222853), that doesn’t include insurance, and you decide to pay extra for your insurance through Avis, or decline, and use your credit card, that corporate code has nothing to do with the claim, because it’s related to an individual, who purchased the insurance.
if you decline their insurance and use your credit card insurance would that still invalidate your policy if found using corporate code you don’t belong to?
I’ve never tested this theory. I feel like this would depend on your credit card and whether they would 1) find out about it and 2) whether they consider using these codes as invalidating the CC insurance policy. Not sure if someone else could chime in?
That shouldn’t invalidate anything.
I’ve have a very good experience with using CV code 022Q9225 for hertz. It’s a code that has set rates, so be sure to look around and compare.
Awesome thanks for sharing the code Justin!
Do you have a list of corporate codes that maybe people who works there may not know they can use it? I work for a Honeywell corporation and I have had their corporate code for many years, but I can no longer find it for new employees. It gives very good corporate flat rates. I also use discount coupons along with the corporate code to get me extra 20-30 dollars off per rental. Also the with National I can set to get airline miles instead of free rental days. I find it stupid that you cannot use free rental days with a discount coupon. Makes the free day worthless since I can usually get a coupon worth the free day.
I don’t have those codes unfortunately but if someone else here has those, I’d be happy to put them up here to share.
Putting my car in the shop. Gonna need a rental today, thursday and plan to keep until next. Wed/thursday. I Live in Houston, Texas.
Have you tried the coupon codes here? The National and Avis ones are really good so give it a shot.
code 40000 gives me the biggest discount!! However, it also doesn’t let me prepay, so needless to say extremely worried about getting questioned about the IBM code – has anyone used it and been asked for more info at the window.. It’s the only code that doesn’t let you prepay.
You’re right – it doesn’t take prepay unfortunately. I personally don’t have experience using codes with Hertz so I wouldn’t be able to answer you confidently. One thing you could do is make this booking and have a back up booking ready in-case.
HI, did you have to show anything at pickup
I’ve never had to for the Avis and National codes I use.
Nothing, other than your credit card, and drivers license.
Any codes to book a car for 15 days? Looking around 200-300$ range in NJ/PA area
Have you tried using Avis with AWD: W222853 and code TUCA037?

Sweet thanks for these!
The avis awd# y325274 I came across has the lowest rate i’ve seen. You can also use it with coupon MUPA007 for an additional $25 off.
Sweet I’m glad that one worked out for you and thanks for sharing these new codes :)
Expired 8/15/2018
Which one is expired 8/15?
Thank you for sharing your story! The codes do make a big difference and happy to hear that you’ve been able to save a TON of money :)
I need a code by tomorrow can u help am coming from Washington Dulles one way to Cleveland airport
Hey for a one-way rental like that, I’d recommend using the Contract ID from National: 5000491. Try it out and let me know what you get!
Hope this forum isn’t dead! Do you know which company this code belongs too? In case I’m blindsided at the counter. Also, I’m under 25 and it seems this kills the Young Driver fee
Hey Caleb, which code are you asking about? There are a few that are good for under 25 that I think I’ve made note of.
I’ve used AWD code W222853 for big discounts, and if your keeping for at least 5 days, with Saturday, use coupon code TUCA037 for free day.
Thanks for sharing Gene! I’ve added it to the list!
